Denver (AP) —Nikola Jokić scored 38 points to overcome the 3-point barrage from Damian Lillard, and the Denver Nuggets defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 128-109 in Chippy Game 2 on Monday night. Equalized the 1-round series.

Jokić also had eight rebounds and five assists. This was four times more than in Game 1 when the Blazers tried not to beat him with a pinpoint pass.

The Nuggets had little answer to Lillard early on, as the dynamic playmaker scored 32 of the 42 points in the first half. His eight three-pointers before the break broke the NBA Playoffs record in most of the halves. Lillard finished 16 9 from a range of 3 points.

Game 3 will take place on Thursday in Portland.

It was a physical issue and four technical fouls (including three in Denver and one in Jokić) and two fragrant one calls (CJ McCollum and Carmelo Anthony) were issued.

The Nuggets rose 20 points in the middle of the fourth quarter, with Facundo Campazzo winning three points after enduring a mini rally from Portland. Monte Morris also had a big block in Lillard.

Michael Porter Jr. found his rhythm and finished with 18 points. He was three-sixths out of the three-point range after going one-tenth from long-distance relationships in Game 1.

The usually solid Blazers have committed 20 turnovers. They were also scored 54-32 in paint.

The Nuggets held down Anthony and Anfernee Simons while Lillard lit up and McCallum added 21. They hurt the nuggets coming out of the series opener bench.

The game became physical early in the game, with Jusuf Nurkić and Jokić entwined, and Jokić fell to the floor. At the next time-out, the team started joking near the midcourt, leading to the technical skills of Porter and Portland’s assistant coach Nate Civets.

His temper escalated as Anthony pushed Jokić down and pulled a flaggrant-1 foul. Just as things started to settle down, Morris picked up the tech right after the half-time horn. Lillard shot a free throw to start the second half.

Hint in

Trail Blazers: Nurkić fouls with 9:58 charge remaining. The Blazers tried to play but failed. … Lillard’s eight threes matched the half mark held by Toronto’s Vince Carter, who hit much of it in the first half against Philadelphia on May 11, 2001. … Lillard had 10 assists.

Nuggets: G / F Will Barton (right hamstring) failed to play in 15 consecutive games. … G Jamal Murray has once again played the role of an enthusiastic cheerleader on the bench in recovering from ACL corruption.

No comparison

The Blazers took the 1-0 series lead last season at the final NBA champion, the Los Angeles Lakers, and lost five games.

“We haven’t compared it to last year,” said Blazers coach Terry Stotts. “Denver is a separate team from the Lakers.”

to keep balance

Nuggets coach Michael Malone said there was no balance Jokić wanted to see when it came to promoting shoots and passes.

“I trust Nicola 1,000%,” Malone said.
