Las Vegas (KLAS) — Energy companies are demanding savings from their customers as dangerous temperatures hit the west coast. This was after millions of Californians lost electricity last year due to a surge in electricity usage in the heat of summer.
“Such an extreme heat wave clearly puts a strain on the power grid throughout the West,” said Ryan Atkins, Head of Trading, Analysis and Operations at NV Energy.
Excessive heat has forced southern Nevadan to rely on appliances that use A / C and large amounts of energy indoors.
“The biggest factor during the summer is the air conditioner,” Atkins said.
NV Energy serves nearly one million customers locally, but they say they don’t have to worry about heat-related blackouts and power outages in the Las Vegas Valley.
8 News NOW reporter Kate Houston told NV Energy about the preparations and ways to save money on the next bill.
