Independence, MO — Seven police officers were killed on duty in the City of Independence.
Officer Blaze Madrid-Evans is a new name added to the short list of stones engraved on the monument to the Fallen Officer of Independence.
“The monument doesn’t have many names, and we want to keep it that way, and unfortunately it didn’t happen to us yesterday,” said IPD spokesman Jack Taylor. ..
It is a loss that this department does not encounter often.
“It’s a shock to the department, it’s a shock to the executives working here, and everyone just tries to get over it and understands where we’re going from here,” Taylor said.
Madrid-Evans was killed on Wednesday When he and another independent officer answered the phone at about 11:30 am at a residence near East 23rd Street and Northern Boulevard, they Suspect The person who fired at the policeman.
The department says they are overwhelmed by the support from the community.
“We are a very special place compared to many places across the country. When such a bad thing happens, everyone gets together,” said IPD Chief Brad Halsey.
Many blue ribbons are tied around trees and sticks, which officers say help them heal during this difficult time.
“It helps us, overcomes this tragedy, moves forward, and gives us the power to do what we are doing,” Taylor said.
Madrid-Evans lives with others, is an organ donor, and will be forever memorable in this community.
His name will soon be engraved on the stone outside the police station reserved for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
