Akron, Ohio (WJW) —The number of suspected Sunday shootings involving police remains high as police continue to investigate.
At around 3:30 am, two police officers say they were patrolling 2200 blocks on East Avenue and heard multiple gunshots.
According to the release from Akron According to police, police said they had escaped from the suspect and observed a man who was later identified as a victim, actively shooting in the direction of the police.
Both policemen tracked the suspect on foot for a short distance, and one of the policemen pulled his duty weapon and fired at the armed suspect, Release said.
According to police, the unidentified suspect escaped on foot and it is unknown whether the suspect was shot dead.
According to his release, the victim, a 32-year-old man, was shot at least twice and once in his chest.
Officers provided first aid until the EMS arrived. Victims have been taken to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center and are listed in a serious but stable condition.
Police say these police officers involved are six-year veterans of Akron police and will be put on paid leave according to departmental procedures.
Evidence, including a pistol, was recovered from the scene, police said.
