According to authorities, the shooter killed 19 students and two teachers. All 21 victims have been identified.
According to Olivares, the incident began in a house when an 18-year-old suspect shot his grandmother. The suspect then crashed his car and tried to run into elementary school. There he met an officer.
Olivares reported that the shooter shot two police officers and entered school. He said the two police officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooter then barricaded himself in the classroom and shot freely.
“It’s a small classroom, with 25 to 30 students, and two teachers,” Olivalez told CNN. “Therefore, we don’t know the exact number of students in the classroom, but it can vary from 25 to 30 as just mentioned, but it was. It’s a typical classroom setting. Classroom setting: A group of children with nowhere to go is gathered in the classroom.
A DPS spokesperson said police officers broke windows and began evacuating students from nearby classrooms.
When additional resources arrived, Olivares said police officers shot and killed the suspect.
“The first group of officers on the scene were at a disadvantage because the shooter was able to barricade himself in the classroom,” Olivares said. “They weren’t enough at the time, so their main focus was to prevent further loss of life, so they broke windows around the school, while rescuing and evacuating children and teachers. I tried to make it.
“At that point, a specialized tactical team of federal police officers and local police officers arrived. They forced them into the classroom. One of those police officers was shot and he was shot. I did. “
Olivares told CNN that police officers also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
