Japanese officials warned after Tokyo reported a record case of coronavirus for two consecutive days when the Olympics were on track.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato told reporters that new incidents are increasing rapidly not only in the Tokyo area but throughout the country.

He says Japan has never experienced an outbreak of this magnitude.

Tokyo reported 3,177 new cases on Wednesday, up from 2,848 on Tuesday, a record high, surpassing 3,000 for the first time.

Japan has lower cases and deaths than many other countries, but the 7-day moving average is increasing, now 28 per 100,000.

Despite the stay-at-home order, people are still roaming the streets, revoking restrictions.
