Moundsview, Minnesota — A deputy sheriff in Ramsey County used an SUV to attack the suspect on Wednesday after beginning to shoot a police officer investigating a domestic attack in Moundsview, officials said.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that lawmakers and Moundsview police officers were investigating felony domestic violence, including guns fired at America Inn by Wyndham.

Authorities confirmed that the victim was safe and received a man’s explanation, the sheriff’s office said. When the police found him, he “raised his pistol and fired at an approaching squad … slightly lost both police officers,” the sheriff’s office said. A police car in Mounds View collided over the windshield on the driver’s side, and a police car in Ramsey County collided under the windshield on the driver’s side.

“For fear of his life and the lives of others, the adjutant of the Sheriff of Ramsey County, who was fired, used his car to stop the threat,” the sheriff’s office said.

After the man was beaten, authorities took first aid and called an ambulance. The man was taken to a hospital in Minneapolis. His condition was not immediately known.

The sheriff’s office said a pistol with a cook was found on the scene. The sheriff’s office did not identify the suspect as a man, but witnesses told reporters on KARE-TV and KMSP-TV that he had seen a man shooting a police car.

The Moundsview Police Station and the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office are investigating allegations of domestic violence and attempted murder of police officers.

The Minnesota Criminal Arrest Department at the scene investigates the use of force by the adjutant.
