Dillon, South Carolina (WBTW) – A hearing of the suspended Mayor of Dillon was to take place on Monday morning. Corey Jackson’s lawyer faced schedule conflicts and had to cancel. Court officials said the hearing included a presentation of plea bargaining. City officials say things are going well despite his absence. One city council member said his members frequently ask him about the situation.
“When will we have a new mayor of Dillon? That’s the main question,” said Timothy Couser, Dillon City Councilor. Mayor Corey Jackson was suspended in May 2019 shortly after being elected. According to the arrest warrant, he offered to pay a teenage boy for a naked photo. City officials say his absence did not make a big difference in their activities.
“Downtown development is still ongoing and new businesses are coming downtown,” Couser said. “I think we’re pretty effective,” said Couser, who is currently serving his first term and is accustomed to working with the acting mayor.
“When it comes to voting, it’s still the same, it’s just that there’s no mayor,” Couser said. “And we haven’t been in the office for two, almost three years.” Jackson isn’t allowed to do urban business, but authorities often attend parliamentary meetings. I said I was doing it.
“He’s still coming, with 100% support for the council, and he’s there,” Cousar said. “So he wants to do his job and we want to put all of this behind us.” Court officials said the case was dealt with long ago. I said yes, but the court was backed up for COVID-19. Jackson’s hearing is currently scheduled for December 6th.
