Hilliard, Ohio (WCMH) – Volunteers at the Fundraising Festival have stopped kidnapping. Franklin County Sheriff’s Office..

Twenty-year-old Ketema Faye has been charged with a felony of kidnapping after being detained by a Franklin County lawmaker Saturday afternoon.

According to court records, Faye helped set up the inflatable bounce house at the ISKON Temple Festival, but remained at the festival after it was set up.

Faye is said to have grabbed a 6-year-old kid leaving the bounce house at the festival. According to the sheriff’s office, Faye tried to move the child away from the bounce house by hand and pass through the festival entrance on Walker Road 3508 in Hilliard.

The parents of the child were also volunteers for the festival. According to the authorities, the father looked away for only a few seconds to help another child and realized that his child was gone.

According to Sgt. Brian Toss of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Faye, unrelated to the temple, grabbed the child’s hand and began walking towards the exit.

The child said he wanted to return to his father, but according to Toss, Faye silenced the child, tightened his grip, and continued walking when the child tried to pull him away.

This is when the volunteers realize something is wrong.

“She asked,’Is this your child?’ Mr. Faye replied,” Yes, “and the child screamed,” No, this is not my dad. “Toss. Said. “The worker stopped this kidnapping.”

According to Toss, this volunteer lifesaving effort is a prime example of why talking about the dangers of strangers and teaching children can save lives.

“Speak up, let the adults know, let someone around you know, yell, yell, and make a scene there.”
Toss said.

According to court records, Faye received a $ 25,000 deposit in the prosecution on Monday. The judge scheduled a preliminary hearing on July 5.

The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with more information about the incident to call the detective agency (614-525-3350).
