Highland County, Ohio (WCMH) —A Hillsboro man was arrested at an unnamed college in Ohio for allegedly attempting a shooting at a female student, according to the US Department of Justice.
According to officials, 21-year-old Tres Genco was arrested by federal agents on Wednesday for attempting a hate crime and for illegally possessing a machine gun.
According to the indictment, Genco conducted an Internet search for Columbus police and “university police” police scanner codes, but did not specifically target Genco.
According to court documents, Genco has self-identified as “insel” or “involuntary bachelor.” The term applies to members of the men’s online community who are allegedly attempting to violently attack women due to the increased romantic attention of men.
According to the indictment, Genco was frequently posted on the popular Insel website.
In one post, officials said Genco had loaded orange juice into a water gun and sprayed a college woman (called a foid or femoid) on her face. “I propose it to all Insel and take very empowering actions,” he reportedly posted.
According to court documents, Genco also wrote a manifesto titled “Awesome Symphony.” The manifesto says, “Slaughter from hatred, jealousy, and revenge … they rob me of the power of life that I have withheld …”. He also allegedly signed the document, “Your hopeful friend and murderer.”
Genco has been charged with one attempt to commit a hate crime with the intention of killing him. This is punished with life imprisonment. One count of illegally possessing a machine gun. This can be punished for up to 10 years.
Genco is no stranger to the criminal justice system. In October 2020, he was sentenced to 17 months in prison for threatening terrorism in Highland County. He was recognized for his 224 days of service and liberation in January 2021. Federal officials say his online “insel” activity took place between July 2019 and mid-March 2020.
