Cleveland (WJW) – According to the FBI’s Unified Crime Report released on September 27, 2021, there were more than 21,500 murders in the United States in 2020.
Murder cases increased by 29% from 2019. This is the highest increase in murders in a year since the FBI began tracking data in the 1960s. At the same time, the resolution rate in such cases dropped from 61% to 54%. This is the lowest homicide clearance rate on record.
In Ohio, there were nearly 800 murders in 2020, compared to 569 in 2019. At the time of the report, 68% of suspects were identified in 2019 and 57% in 2020.
With these numbers in mind, FOX8.com is working to get more attention to the murders in northeastern Ohio in the hope of helping the family close.
