Washington (WJW) – Republican Rep. Anthony Gonzalez in Ohio’s 16th district voted to impeach President Donald Trump’s role in the rebellion at the US Capitol last week.
Gonzales, a district that includes the Rocky River, Strongsville, Medina, and Worcester, is one of several Republicans in the House of Representatives and has broken out of party boundaries.
The House of Representatives has secured a vote to prosecute Trump for incitement to riots. He is currently the only US president to be impeached twice.
“The President of the United States helped organize and incite mobs to attack the United States Parliament in order to prevent them from carrying out their solemn missions as required by the Constitution. In doing so, the police of the Capitol Five people, including the officials, have been killed, more have been injured, and democracy has been shaken, “Gonzales said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
“Given all the events up to January 6, including the president’s failure to respond to the attack on the US Capitol, we have to support the impeachment,” he continued.
