Oklahoma City (Free press) — The Oklahoma County Detention Center escaper was arrested by Nikoma Park police around 7 pm Friday evening after being on the run since a prison official reported late Wednesday.
Nicholas James Reach, 41, was successfully captured and transferred to prison, where he was booked on suspicion of a new crime.
- Escape from city or county prisons,
- Car theft.
Reach escaped from prison Wednesday evening by stealing the key and remote gate of the loading dock lamp from the backpack of an OCDC maintenance worker.
He was able to use the remote control to open the gate and enter the parking lot.
Once there, he used the key fob to find the maintenance worker’s car, boarded it, and drove away.
Maintenance workers are also trained as detainees who play a dual role.
Reach was put in jail on May 29, this year, after pleading guilty to two crimes sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison. He was also sentenced to three years in prison for violating the suspended sentence.
It is unknown when he will appear in court for these crimes.
