Katina Giotte, a graduate of Ashland University from Olmsted Falls, won the gold medal in the women’s pole vault at the Tokyo Olympics.

Nagiotte was the only woman to successfully vault at that height, clearing 4.9 meters in her second attempt. She made some mistakes early on — she couldn’t clear 4.5 meters in the first two attempts — but shortly thereafter entered the ditch. The 30-year-old, who cleared his personal best of 4.95 meters earlier this year, was his favorite headline for the final.

It was only one jump for Nagiotte to play the finals of the Olympics. She easily cleared 4.55 meters earlier this week..

Nagiotte is currently training at the Atlanta Track Club. Her family and local supporters gathered at a local watch party during the Olympic finals, and WKYC captured the reaction after the medal-winning vault.
