Omaha, Nebraska (KMTV) —The school year is nearing its end, but reading continues. The Omaha Public Library Summer Reading Program will return to 12 branches on June 1st and will run until July 31st.
Summer reading program Encourage and encourage children, teens and adults to visit and read local libraries during the summer. Studies show that students who read during the summer will improve their grades and reading scores when they return to school in the fall.
“The overall purpose of the summer reading program is to prevent what is called a summer slide, which is the time when children are absent from school and are not actually engaged in learning,” said the Omaha Public Library. Emily Getzschmann, Marketing Manager of the Library, said. “Fun reading will inspire your mind and prepare you to go back to school and learn in the fall, so you can keep moving, imaginative, and they do it, even if you don’t know it’s happening. I’m just having fun while I’m doing it. ”
The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program is “The Sea of Possibilities.”
All programs and events during the summer are free, and students who sign up will receive a free book when they enroll in the program. In the summer reading program, participants can win prizes such as ticket vouchers to watch Omaha Storm Chasers baseball games and participate in other fun activities such as escape games.
