Omicron proves that we do not control Covid. Only global action can stop this pandemic.Jeremy Farrer

MeIt’s been almost two years since I first heard about Covid-19, and one year since the first Covid vaccine was launched. But this extraordinary progress is wasted. We have been drifting for the past few months, with richer nations taking a very dizzying domestic focus and believing that the worst of the pandemic is behind us. This variant reminds us all that we remain closer to the beginning than the end of the pandemic.

There is a lot to learn about Omicron variant.. It is not yet known if this is a pandemic-altering mutant, that is, it actually circumvents our vaccines and treatments. Research will reveal even more in the coming days and weeks. Data should be carefully monitored and tracked, giving a good scientific team time to get answers. We are very worried about countries with restricted access to vaccines, but we are cautiously hoping that current vaccines will continue to protect us from severe illness and death if fully vaccinated. I am.

However, that may not be the case for the following variants:

The more the virus continues to spread to the few unvaccinated populations around the world, the more likely it is that mutants will emerge that can overcome our vaccines and treatments. If that happens, we can approach a square.

The important thing is that the urgency hasn’t changed so far. Wearing masks indoors, increasing testing, keeping a social distance, isolating positives (helping to do so), all vaccinations help reduce infections and protect against illness. We probably don’t know where and how Omicron originated, but we need to continue to prioritize the protection of the most vulnerable people, including those with weakened immunity, the elderly and health care workers.

I can understand that the country is moving to Use boosters to protect the population.. This must be done in parallel with securing a global vaccine supply. Supply is finally increasing, And with political will, it can be achieved. Developed countries, which make up the majority of existing supplies, will have to share more doses over the next few months.

Covid-19 has already killed millions and changed the daily lives of all of us, but we must do everything we can to avoid returning to the blockade. This is a sign of public health failure. World leaders play with fire and endanger our hard-earned progress by continuing to ignore warnings and focusing solely on their own population.I can’t believe it ACT-accelerator We still have to seek the funds we need urgently to end this pandemic.

This political drift and lack of leadership does not want the government to actually deal with unfair access to vaccines, tests and treatments, prolonging the pandemic of everyone. We haven’t controlled this pandemic yet – Omicrons or even worse variants can occur at any time. There were great speeches, warm words, but no action needed to ensure fair access to what we know and end the pandemic.

Even before learning about this new variant, the big picture was already in serious trouble. NS 4th wave We are looking at Europe, and southern Africa will soon hit the United States, Latin America, and Asia. It is important for world leaders to understand this as the UK moves the G7 Presidency to Germany and Italy hands over the G20 to Indonesia later this month. Still, it is the most urgent threat facing our world.

We only end this pandemic by working globally, reducing infections everywhere, and sharing access to all the important public health tools needed to save lives. Two years later, it’s astounding and quite frustrating that the government hasn’t awakened yet and realizes that this is in their enlightened and shared self-interest.

Acting for the self-interest of the country only perpetuates this crisis and locks us in a cycle of waves, new varieties, lost lives, and ongoing economic and social turmoil.

No country should believe that they are safe just because they have vaccinated their population. We have to do better than this.
