KSNW, Wichita — One person was killed and the other seriously injured after a car crashed into a church near the intersection of Poplar and Ohm Street in Wichita.
According to officials, a 36-year-old man crashed a stolen blue pickup truck into the Iglesia De Cristo church at the intersection of Orme and Poplar St.
“The vehicle had a key in it,” said police chief Gordon Ramsay. “The owner was working in the yard nearby. The vehicle was stolen and reported stolen. So when we were looking for it, we crashed in the church behind me. I received the information, and soon after I stabbed 600 blocks in the South Green. “
Police believe the suspect fled the scene and hit a house on Green Street after the vehicle crashed into the church. There he is accused of stabbing two people.
“Two people were stabbed in the dwelling. One died and the other was in crisis,” Ramsey said.
Authorities are still working to determine if there was a motive for the attack. According to Ramsey, the suspect had been released on parole for six other crimes.
“This continues the pattern of parolees committing crimes in the city,” Ramsey said. “One of the benchmarks we need to remember is arresting and arresting these suspects in these critical cases. But still, it’s the suspects coming out of prison. Seemingly an endless source, that’s my serious concern, as I saw last week, because there is ongoing serious criminal activity by parolees. “
Police chief Gordon Ramsay says they are still investigating the case and will be updated as more information becomes available.
