Uber’s Indian rival Ola, which manufactures its own electric vehicle, announced on Tuesday that it has hired Jaguar Land Rover veteran Wayne Burgess as head of vehicle design.

Having worked with Jaguar Land Rover on models such as the XF, F-Type, F-Pace SUV and XE for nearly 20 years, Burgess will join Ora Electric, Ora’s electric vehicle business, to lead the design of the company’s overall EV product. Range with scooters, motorcycles, cars and other vehicles.

In front of Jaguar Land Rover, Burgess was Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce.. He worked on Bentley Arnage in 1998 and Aston Martin’s DB9 in the mid-2000s.

In a statement, Ora Chairman and Group CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said Burgess “will bring global appeal and design aesthetics to industry-changing electric vehicles.” Burgess said he was looking forward to leading a team that “worked on the design of cutting-edge electric vehicles for the world.”

Ora is India’s largest ride-hailing service company, competing with California’s heavyweight Uber in several countries around the world.

Headquartered in Bangalore, the company was founded by Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati in 2010 and plans to launch the first electric scooter in the coming months. These vehicles are more like mopeds (gearless bikes) than electric scooters associated with companies such as Bird, Lime, Voi and Tier.

The Ora Scooter will be manufactured at the Ora Future Factory in Tamil Nadu, India, which is currently under construction. When fully operational, Ora claims to produce 10 million Oras scooters annually at the facility.

Ora split its electric vehicle business into separate units in February 2019 with $ 56 million in funding. In addition to EVs, we are also working on the development of infrastructure that enables large-scale operations of charging solutions, EV batteries and commercial EVs.
