Orange Ozone Alert issued for Wednesday, MARC says | News – Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City, Missouri 2021-06-15 16:26:00 –

Kansas City, Missouri (KCTV)-According to the Air Quality Program of the Central American Regional Council (MARC), the first ozone warning of the season was issued on Wednesday.

An orange ozone alert has been issued. In other words, “Tomorrow we expect unhealthy levels of tropospheric ozone.”

MARC lists two things people should do on the day of ozone alerts:

1. Protect your health

Ozone contamination can cause a variety of problems, including chest pain, coughing, nausea, throat irritation, and difficulty breathing, even in healthy adults. People who are sensitive to air pollution, such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or heart problems, should take special care to limit outdoor activities from 10 am to 7 pm.

2. Reduce pollution

More than half of the emissions that lead to ozone pollution are caused by daily activities such as driving and gardening. Consider sharing, riding a bus, postponing mowing, and waiting to refuel your car until evening to reduce pollution.

Ozone pollution is formed when emissions from vehicles, lawns, garden equipment, and other sources react to heat and sunlight. Other environmental factors, such as warm, sunny weather, low wind speeds, and lack of rain, increase the likelihood of poor air quality.
