Portland, Oregon (KOIN) – The Oregon DMV warned Oregon residents to pay attention to text messages from fraudsters claiming refunds, according to a press release Wednesday.
Fraudsters are trying to get payment information from Oregons by pretending to be a DMV and sending a text indicating that the recipient has a refund.
The DMV urged those who received these texts to delete the message without clicking the link.
“DMV does not send text messages to customers to notify them about payment issues or to refund by text message,” said Katie Hafner, DMV Customer Service Manager.
Instead, refunds from DMVs will be mailed or deposited directly on your card. Oregon DMV officials also said they would not notify people that they would receive a refund.
