Portland, Oregon (KOIN) —The National Guard was launched to support the potential for civil unrest after a riot by supporters of President Donald Trump at the US Capitol last week.
Oregon police police officer Terry Davey said the OSP’s preparations “play a neutral role.” Protests are expected before the launch, but details have not been announced.
“Oregon police will not discuss the details of the potential threats and tactical plans that have been created unless it is determined that there is a need for public security,” the statement said.
Oregon Army National Guard will be deployed as needed and the location will not be disclosed.
“Recent events at our Capitol and our State Capitol show that law enforcement agencies need to be prepared and properly deployed for large-scale rallies,” Davy adds. I did.
The riots have led some state governors and lawmakers to strengthen the security of their Capitol as they meet during the pandemic of the session and inauguration ceremony.
Like the US Capitol, the State Capitol is regularly demonstrated. Many already have armed guards and metal detectors to screen visitors.
Last year, a series of minor relapses occurred at the State Capitol. Last spring, armed protesters entered the Michigan State Capitol to oppose a pandemic-related blockade. Some were blocked by police while requesting access to the House floor, while others shouted from the Senate gallery.
