Portland, Oregon (KOIN) —A man on the Hood River died in a motorcycle crash while fleeing authorities on Friday night, according to Oregon police.

Sergeant Hood River County Sheriff found a rider riding a Suzuki motorcycle on the baseline road around 8 pm and tried to pull the driver for a traffic violation. Police said the driver, instead of stopping, ran faster and turned north to Toll Bridge Road to escape.

The sergeant lost sight of the motorcyclist, but after a while he crashed on Toll Bridge Road at the intersection of Highway 35. It was a Suzuki rider.

First responders and OSP troopers were called to the scene.

A motorcycle rider identified as Hood River’s 34-year-old Lyle Halberson speeded north on Toll Bridge Road when he “failed to negotiate the right corner,” according to investigators, in the opposite lane. Entered and collided. Ford pickup truck.

Halberson was declared dead on the scene, police said.

The pickup truck driver was not injured in the collision.

It is unclear what Halberson’s alleged traffic violation was for and why he fled the police.
