OU Board of Regents hold special meeting to discuss athletic conference membership – Tulsa, Oklahoma

Oklahoma City, University of Oklahoma — The OU Board of Directors will meet on Friday to discuss membership in the University’s Athletics Conference.

On Monday, Sooners and Longhorns issued a joint statement refusing to renew their media rights agreement with the Big 12 Conference.

Since then, both universities have submitted requests to attend the Southeastern Conference. SEC officials unanimously voted to allow OU and Texas participation.

All competing sports will participate in the SEC from 1 July 2025 to 2025-26.

This happens after the Big 12 Conference has sent a cease and desist letter to ESPN. The conference claiming the news network colluded with other conferences to poach the other big 12 teams and persuade them to leave.

Now, it is up to the OU Board to discuss openly accepting invitations to the SEC.

The meeting starts at 9am and is open to the public.
