Tulsa, Oklahoma — Out in Gold, In in Blue — that’s the plan for the Mabby Center at Oral Roberts University.
The refurbishment is on track and is obvious to anyone driving a venue near 81st and Lewis.
This was after the men’s basketball team entered the NCAA Sweet Sixteen tournament. Their winning streak encouraged donations and support from generous donors.
School leaders told 2 News Oklahoma that the arena will have a “whole new look” by the start of this year’s basketball season. Their goal is to move to more “modern” facilities at home and abroad. They plan to install new blue seats, new floors, new suites and new concourses.
The university has also introduced two other multi-million dollar projects. The South Lobby will be converted into a new sports medicine facility and new locker rooms and lounges for players. On the southwest corner of the arena is a new athletic center named after Mike Carter, a former athletic director of ORU.
The current deputy athletic director, Tim Johnson, will replace Carter on August 1st. He said the team’s winning season gave the momentum needed to pursue these refurbishments.
“I’ve never seen so many people get in so fast. That’s why people really support us. We’re running a fundraising campaign this summer and that support is great,” Johnson said. Mr. says.
The cost of this project is estimated at about $ 25 million. The Mabby Center is scheduled to be completed by November. Other facilities are scheduled to be completed between October and December next year.
