“There are one or two sections on what’s happening today,” explained Margaret Marino, director of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. “But to be honest, I think people are saturated with what’s happening today, but what may surprise them is how similar this is in the past and how important vaccination is. I think that’s what it means. “
The pandemic is nothing new. The exhibition covers the history of the pandemic over the past hundreds of years.
“The 1919 pandemic-a historical view of what happened there and how it was treated in the United States-people had a slightly different attitude about it,” Marino said. “They had a little more confidence in science and things. It was a kind of science renaissance.”
The exhibit was created by the Smithsonian, and Dr. Anthony Fauci is actually one of the curators.
“The entire exhibition was designed before the pandemic,” Marino said. “It’s all designed before they predicted that a pandemic could occur.”
Now, this exhibition aims to give a little perspective on what the world experienced last year.
“I think people will be surprised by some of the topics out there,” Marino said.
The exhibition will start on Friday, June 23rd.
