Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (WCBD) – Local brides are at a loss after an overnight fire broke out in Mount Pleasant, disrupting three businesses, including Jeans Bridal.
The business posted on Facebook on Thursday evening regrets that it can’t provide a solution at this time.
One bride’s mother says telling her daughter that the dress was ashes was one of the most difficult moments she had to do as a mother. “It was the hardest phone call I had to make … and it’s hard to dry my daughter’s tears without being there,” says Kim Sexton.
The wedding of Sexton’s daughter is only a few months away. She was lucky to have time to find a new dress, but she says she lost something irreplaceable: a custom embroidery of her grandmother’s favorite character.
“The bridal shop here sewed a Minnie Mouse silhouette on the dress, but it was even more devastating because we didn’t know if we could reproduce it,” says Sexton.
Neighbors like Emily Williams, who lived behind Jean’s bridal and witnessed the fire, jumped into action.
“I’m not going to wear a wedding dress again, and it’s a beautiful dress. I want someone to borrow and use it. I also called some of my friends and they want to give them too I think, “says Williams.
Williams is currently putting together a drive to help the affected bride.
“They all had to deal with COVID-19, probably reschedule so many different times and find different vendors. The last thing they want to know is that their wedding dress is burned to the ground. That’s what Williams says.
The family now wants their daughters to be able to find their special dress again through donations and community support.
“It’s been about two months, but it won’t take long. I hope the miracle of all these brides getting married still makes their dreams come true,” says Sexton.
