Barton County, Kansas (KSNW) —A half-fall caused a three-hour road closure in Barton County on Monday afternoon.
The utility pole-laden cicada was heading south on US281, just south of Wet Walnut Creek. The 25-year-old Elimast was driving a cicada and didn’t see the vehicle stop trying to turn left.
The mast did not stop and tried to go around the vehicle with his right shoulder. While the cicada missed the car, it was later identified as the 1994 Ford Crown Victoria, but the trailer slipped into a ditch, overturning the truck and trailer.
The road was closed because the utility poles piled up on the cicadas were scattered on the highway. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office was on-site with the support of the Kansas Department of Transportation, and the road was reopened three hours later.
Neither driver was injured in the accident.
