U.S. ports expanding aid to Gaza don’t need to visit the site, officials say | World News

Joe Biden is set to announce that the US military will set up a temporary port on the Gaza coast to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the besieged region.

The President of the United States is scheduled to make the announcement during his State of the Union address.

The plan, which Israel reportedly said it has “full support” for, would allow for hundreds of additional truckloads of aid each day.

This will allow more food, medicine and other essential goods to be shipped to Gaza, a US government official told Sky News partner network NBC News.

U.S. officials said the operation would not require U.S. troops on the ground and Israeli authorities could inspect items at the city’s port.

Planning and implementation of the port is expected to take several weeks.

US port plan in Gaza is risky

This is a critical moment in the war.

This is a sign that the United States does not accept Israel’s claims that it is receiving enough aid in the Gaza Strip, blaming aid agencies and the United Nations for not getting it where it is needed.

Joe Biden’s patience with Israel has almost reached its limit, and he is now sending his own military to make up for the shortcomings and failures of one of America’s closest allies.

And that move comes with great risk. Building a port during a war is risky.

It is said that this will not involve U.S. forces on the ground, only troops at sea, but it is unclear how the United States can guarantee the safety of its own forces.

America has an enemy in Gaza, and its backer, Iran, wants to score points with the US military in an election year.

This decision clearly escalates and strengthens America’s involvement in the war, and the mission may not stop there.

Another important point is that construction of this building will take weeks, if not months, but Gaza’s malnourished masses will need to be fed sooner rather than later.

U.S. officials also told NBC that the shipment would be routed through Cyprus, made possible by a coalition of U.S. forces and partners and allies.

Earlier this week, EU officials visited Cyprus to discuss the establishment of a maritime aid corridor with a platform in Larnaca on the island.

Israel began its attack on Gaza after Hamas attacked Gaza on October 7, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting about 250 people.

In November, more than 100 hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.

According to the Hamas-led Gaza Health Ministry, the number of Palestinians killed has reached more than 30,700.

The region is facing a worsening humanitarian catastrophe, with aid groups warning that it has become nearly impossible to deliver supplies to large parts of the Gaza Strip.

Many Palestinians, especially those living in the devastated north, are scrambling for food to survive.

Sir Mark Lowcock, former director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, told Sky News that without more aid the death toll would “explode”.

“The death toll from starvation and related diseases will be higher than the estimated 30,000 people who have already died from bombs and bullets,” he said.
