Panama City, FL –
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Florida (WMBB) – After a tornado ripped off the roof of the Blu Convenience Store and Deli in April, owners Tom and Sara Pulatov were at a standstill.
“It just came out of nowhere and it just happened. It’s just a terrifying moment,” said Tom Pulatov.
With the huge support from the community and a building for rent next door, the couple knew what they wanted to do next.
“We decided to clean up this place, you know, fix anything that needed work. We fixed it and sort of installed it in the store and just kept going, ”Pulatov said.
However, homeowners aren’t ready to give up their old, much larger space.
“We really want to relocate,” said the owner.
The community wants it for them just as much. That’s why they had set up a surprise fundraiser.
“They have a team and we are part of that team to help revive it,” said Patty Hester, one of the area residents.
Hester is one of the many locals who have turned up to make a purchase or donate.
“The building that was there was there before the Blue Convenience, but they came and went… these two are here to stay,” Hester said.
Whether it’s the friendly smiles of the Pulatovs or their wide variety of products, many customers who enter Blu Convenience Store and Deli become regulars.
The Pulatovs hope to return to their old home by Christmas.
