Disney announced Friday that it will require employees working at one of its sites in the United States to be fully vaccinated.
Disney, which has more than 200,000 employees worldwide, said the requirement would apply to all salaried and non-union hourly employees in the United States.
Employees will have 60 days from today to complete the requirement. The company is currently negotiating with the unions over the new policy.
In a statement, the company said:
“At The Walt Disney Company, the safety and well-being of our employees during the pandemic has been and continues to be a top priority. To this end, and based on the latest recommendations from scientists, health officials, and our own healthcare professionals that the COVID-19 vaccine provides the best protection against serious infections, we require all hourly employees employees and non-union members in the United States working at any of our sites be fully immunized.
The statement continued:
“Employees who are not already vaccinated and who are working on-site will have 60 days from today to complete their protocols and all employees still working at home will be required to provide a vaccination check prior to their return, with some exceptions. near. We have also started discussions on this subject with the unions representing our employees within the framework of collective agreements. In addition, all new recruits should be fully vaccinated before starting work. Vaccines are the best tool we all have to help control this global pandemic and protect our employees. ”
Earlier this week, Google also postponed plans to bring most of its employees back to the office until mid-October. It is also rolling out a policy that will eventually require all of its employees to be vaccinated once its sprawling campuses are fully reopened in order to combat the spread of the delta variant.
CEO Sundar Pichai told the more than 130,000 Google employees worldwide in an email on Wednesday that the company is now planning to bring them back to its offices on October 18, instead of its previous target date of September 1.
