DEFUNIAK SPRINGS Fla. (WMBB) – A nonprofit in DeFuniak Springs has caught the governor’s attention following this year’s efforts during COVID-19.
Community Outreach Matrix in DeFuniak Springs helps homeless people in need of mortgage and rental assistance, utility assistance, and veteran services throughout the county.
Matrix Executive Director Candy Nowling helped collect and distribute 51,429 boxes of fresh produce throughout Walton County.
With her help throughout this difficult year, many were able to sleep more easily through the night. Governor DeSantis and county officials recognized Nowling for his efforts.
“These selfless efforts and her divine spirit were recognized by the great state of Florida when it received the 2020 Florida Governor’s Hurricane Conference Volunteer Agency Award earlier this spring,” said Catie Feeney , Matrix public information officer, at the Walton commission meeting on Tuesday.
The money Nowling was able to raise and all the residents the organization she was able to help set new records.
