Panama City, FL – FWC looking to hire bear response contractors

Panama City, FL –

BAY COUNTY, Florida (WMBB) – The Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission is looking to hire bear response contractors.

Bear response contractors will be trained and tasked with setting bear traps, monitoring bears, bringing bears to biologists, talking to residents and assisting them with bear conflicts, picking up bears that were hit by cars and to gather information about them.

The FWC is looking for several contractors across the Panhandle.

The position is not a full-time position, the ideal candidate should have a flexible schedule and would work “as needed”.

“If we call them, we hope they can respond within a few hours, depending on what it is,” said bear management program coordinator David Telesco. “But most of the time it’s people who have other jobs and it’s a side job or they’re retired.”
