Panama City, FL – Gabby Petito’s body identified, death ruled a homicide

Panama City, FL –

TETON COUNTY, Wyoming. (Nation Now) – The body of the missing YouTuber Gabby Petito was identified, the FBI confirmed in a tweet.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday on the remains found Sunday in a park in Wyoming. The Teton County coroner has ruled the death a homicide, but the cause of death is pending final results, according to the tweet.

The body was found in Grand Teton National Park.

The confirmation officially ends a nearly two-week search for Petito after her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, returned on his own from a trip across the country the two were taking. Laundrie was deemed a person of interest in Petito’s disappearance before disappearing last week.

Petito was last seen in a social media video on August 25, and the last text she sent was on August 30, although her the family is skeptical if she, in fact, wrote the text herself.

Tuesday, a The spokesperson for the Petito family said they would make a “when Gabby’s home” statement.

The answers in this case have proven elusive so far, and former FBI agents say they will be hard to come by unless Laundrie shows up.

“The reality is we don’t know (the police) have even spoken to him or even know where he is,” former FBI agent Patrick Conley said on NewsNation Prime on Monday. “We don’t know if he even went to his residence. (It’s) just speculation from all sides about it.

Investigators searched the Carlton Preserve, a 24,000-acre wooded area near Laundrie’s parents’ house. Brian Laundrie and Petito lived there before their road trip.

Laundrie and Petito interacted with the police at least once on this trip. On August 12, someone reported domestic disturbances involving the couple. Laundrie told police that Petito had hit him, but a 911 call on the same day appeared to conflict with that story.

Part of the appeal is as follows:

  • Caller: “We are driving by and I would like to report a family dispute. “
  • Mail: “What were they doing?”
  • Caller: “Uh… we walked past and the gentleman was slapping the girl.” “
  • Mail: “Was he slapping her?”
  • Caller: “Yes, and then we stopped. They walked up and down the sidewalk. He started hitting her, jumped in the car and they drove away. “

Officers suggested the couple spend the night separately and have not arrested either Laundrie or Petito.

On September 1, Laundrie returned to her parents without Petito, police said. She was reported missing on September 10.

September 19 the day Petito’s body was found, her father, Joseph Petito, tweeted “💔 # GABBYPETITO she touched the world.”

The Associated Press and Beth Rousseau of the WFLA contributed to this report.
