Panama City, FL –
PANAMA CITY, Florida (WMBB) – The Gulf Coast State College Foundation received a nice contribution on Thursday.
The college received $160,000 in donations from several generous sources.
The first came from Innovations Federal Credit Union, which donated $10,000 to the Gulf Coast Guarantee.
The program provides automatic financial aid of $1,400 to current high school graduates in Bay, Gulf, and Franklin counties who enroll full-time in college.
“We are proud to do our small part to help promote the college’s mission and provide these scholarships to these students, so thank you very much,” said David Powell, Director of Business Development at Federal Credit Union Innovations.
The second check was from former Gulf Coast State College Foundation Trustee George Duren, who donated $50,000 to the Gulf Coast Guarantee.
Duren said he was proud to give back to such a patriotic institution.
“As a family, we hope that Gulf Coast State College will always uphold traditional American values and continue to provide students from all walks of life with the education they need to pursue their American dream,” Duren said.
The final donation came from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, which donated $100,000 to “TRIO” students.
“TRIO programs are for students with a federal program that provides direct support to first-generation college students who have difficult socioeconomic status,” said Gulf Coast State College President Dr. Holdnak.
In addition to helping with tuition and fees, the grant allows for assistance with essential living expenses like housing, childcare, and transportation.
Since 2011, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has donated more than $500,000 to Gulf Coast State College.
