Panama City, FL –
LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WMBB) – Another Lynn Haven employee now faces felony charges after investigators said he defrauded local residents after Hurricane Michael.
Michael Gordon, 59, of Lynn Haven is charged with public order crimes and fraud. Lynn Haven Police said on Friday they began investigating Gordon after learning he had obtained a general contractor’s license in Calhoun County. The action set off red flags after local and state investigators determined that a former employee was illegally licensing individuals.
Investigators say Gordon ordered employees to inspect the buildings even though they were not qualified to perform the inspections. According to an employee, Gordon was doing this in both Lynn Haven and Bay County when he worked as a building inspector for the Bay County Building Department.
“He never even set foot on the property,” said Lynn Haven Police Chief Rickie Ramie.
Ramie added that he was concerned for the safety of residents of Lynn Haven who now live or work in buildings that have been inspected by Gordon and his employees. This is especially glaring given what the residents of Lynn Haven have already faced in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.
“It’s just one more burden that the citizens are going to hand over to them,” Ramie said. “At the end of the day, someone has to be responsible for this. And that’s not going to happen in the town of Lynn Haven. ”
