Panama City, FL – Lynn Haven Elementary students aid in Hurricane Ida relief

Panama City, FL –

LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WMBB) – Some students from the local elementary school are mobilizing to help the victims of Hurricane Ida in Louisiana.

Lynn Haven Elementary organized a weeklong Nickels for New Orleans initiative.

Principal John Cannon said the students raised around $ 600 and an anonymous donor rounded the total to $ 1,000.

He presented a check for $ 1,000 to the Rotary Club of Lynn Haven to give to the Rotary Club of Houma, Louisiana.

Cannon said he was proud of his students.

“It was amazing… The kids brought their toy money, their birthday money, the things they saved, their piggy banks… emptied everything and brought it in, and we collected,” Cannon said. “No one asked for anything in return. Everyone was just very proud to give and serve others.

The Lynn Haven Rotary Club matched the school’s total and individual members also donated.

The club called Rotary in Houma at their meeting Wednesday morning to let them know they will receive a check for $ 3,000.

The Houma Rotary Club said the money would go to feed the people of Houma.
