Panama City, FL –
PENSACOLA, Fla. (WMBB) – The Lynn Haven Fire Department placed 9th out of 22 teams in their first appearance in the Pensacola Firefighter Challenge on Saturday.
Fire departments from across the Southeast were represented at Saturday’s competition.
Firefighters in teams of five competed in a relay race style competition that included several challenges related to fighting a fire.
Some of the challenges included a forced entry door and a dummy drug where contestants dragged a 175-pound mannequin on the beach.
Lt. Samuel Smith and Lynn Haven Fire said they were excited about their early results.
“Coming in there as a new team, we knew we had really good talent in our team, but we also knew there were a lot of other really good departments with really experienced guys,” said Smith.
Lynn Haven Fire was not the only local fire department to participate in the Firefighter Challenge.
Walton County Fire Rescue also participated and had two teams compete. Both teams are ranked in the top 10.
