Panama City, FL –
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Florida (WMBB) – Cars filled the roads of Panama City Beach on Sunday. If you plan to spend your Memorial Day vacation near water, it may be a good idea to plan ahead for traffic delays.
Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the summer season, but Panama City Beach Mayor Mark Sheldon said our beaches have been incredibly busy since the last Memorial Day.
A few weeks ago, beach officials opened Phillip Griffitts Senior Parkway to cut traffic on Highway 98, but Sheldon said it would still be a busy vacation.
“Traffic will always be what it is on Front Beach Road and Back Beach Road, so please plan accordingly and have a little more patience,” said Sheldon. “Memorial Day is a special time and we want to make sure people are kind and humble this weekend and just remember what the party is.”
With the growing number of visitors, Sheldon said he was determined to keep Panama City Beach safe.
“Yes, we are doing everything we can to make sure we are a family destination. In doing so, we also want to move forward with new fines, increased fines. We’re going from $ 50 to $ 500 for noise offenses and things of that nature. We want to make sure that we are doing everything possible to have a good safe community for the family. “
He urged people to be patient during this busy holiday weekend.
