Panama City, FL – Panhandle Weather 5-24-2022

Panama City, FL –

Panama City Florida (WMBB) – On Wednesday, a short wave develops over the north-central Gulf of Mexico and moves north into the western FL Panhandle and Alabama throughout the day. This may help trigger showers and storms early Wednesday morning over waters west of Apalachicola and the beaches, spreading inland into FL Panhandle and SE Alabama counties during the morning hours. It is possible that one or two of these storms in the morning will be strong as there will be a lot of instability and some shear to work with. The western FL Panhandle and southeast AL will likely see a few waves of showers and storms throughout the day. Further east the chance of rain is somewhat lower being removed from the main lift mechanism. However, the instability will still be quite high with at least some shear present. This could bring strong to severe isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has areas generally west of the Flint River in a marginal risk of severe weather (Level 1 out of 5) as this is the greatest chance of more organized severe weather. However, wouldn’t be surprised to see this expanded further east in later updates.
