Panama City, FL –
PARKER, Florida (WMBB) – Parker’s city leaders announced who will be the new fire chief at a special council meeting on Friday.
Matthew Jensen from Pensacola will take over.
The search for a new leader began last month after the city council terminated the former leader in June.
Jensen will soon be in charge of leading the fire department, which consists of three paid firefighters and 17 volunteers.
Mayor Andrew Kelly said he was happy the hiring process was completed.
“I think that’s great… I had reached a point where I was like, ‘Please don’t let them drop this one more time. Let’s do this. Let’s put this to bed. Let’s hire this guy, ”Kelly said. “I’m really happy they made the decision they made.”
The board started with 29 candidates and narrowed the pool to five.
They held the talks last Tuesday, with Jensen being on Zoom.
Kelly said the process of hiring the new chef will take a few weeks as Jensen must leave his current position in Pensacola and find a new home in Bay County.
