Panama City, FL –
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – On Thursday, the Port of Panama City recognized its outgoing Executive Director and welcomed its new one. The council presented Wayne Stubbs with a plaque for his 20 years of service.
Stubbs has been the Executive Director of the Port of Panama City since July 2001.
“It’s really a lot of emotion because I’ve been here for 20 years,” Stubbs said.
During these 20 years, the port has known both challenges and achievements.
“We had a fire, we had a hurricane. But at that time I think I was most proud of the port, of everyone’s resilience, of how everyone came together, ”said Stubbs.
The board passed a resolution recognizing Stubbs’ dedication to the port at Thursday’s special meeting. He says it is an honor to serve.
“I had the opportunity to be part of the community and see the port grow and see the community grow. So it’s hard to get away from it, but we don’t leave town, so we don’t really stray from it, ”Stubbs said.
Stubbs’ successor, Alex King, has already been in port for 10 years.
“It’s an honor to be here today. It is an honor to be selected for this position within the Port Authority and it is an honor to serve this port, ”said King.
King says he’s grateful to have had Stubbs as a mentor. He says the port will continue to prioritize growth in the future.
“With the foundation he has, there are more opportunities in Mexico and Central America. As you know, we are increasing our bulk handling capacity and the terminal is, ”King said.
King will replace Stubbs from June 1.
