Panama City, FL –
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Those entering downtown Panama City will soon be greeted by a wall full of murals known as the “Welcome Wall”. The mural is located on the Eastern Market side of the ocean and will feature the work of 8 artists. The second mural artist begins his painting this week.
So far, local artist Heather Clements has already completed her piece. Another local artist, Jayson Kretzer, began his mural on Wednesday. Kretzer expects his mural of a cartoon character to take 3-4 days.
The Bay Arts Alliance is excited to bring more art to the downtown core.
“It was such a race and an honor. I feel like the community supported the murals from the start and not just the murals, but the art as a whole. I mean you see the quality of life in Panama City intensify, you see the Downtown Improvement Board intensify and lots of local artists come in. I mean it’s really just a team effort of group, ”said Jayson Kretzer of the Bay Arts Alliance.
The project is sponsored in part by the Downtown Improvement Board. Kretzer says they’ve been planning the mural for over a year.
