Panama City, FL – Whistle blows at Paper Mill for final time

Panama City, FL –

SPRINGFIELD, Florida (WMBB) – Workers at the Panama City paper mill say the mill blew its final whistle Thursday afternoon.

The factory is to officially close on Monday. Earlier this month, workers shared a video on social media of the last roll of paper to roll out of the factory line.

Video from this afternoon showed workers outside the factory as the whistle sounded. Westrock, the owner of the mill, announced in April that they were closing the factory this month and that 450 employees would lose their jobs.

The company confirmed that the factory whistle last sounded at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, as the last electric boiler was taken offline. In addition, the final production of the paper took place yesterday around 1:45 p.m.
