Sacramento (CBS13) — At a pandemic party, public health officials are at stake and police are investigating.
Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, a Snapchat video released over the weekend shows dozens of unmasked people gathering in what looks like an indoor party.
“What you don’t want to do is like a triple win. By not wearing a mask, staying socially away, and drinking alcohol, you reduce restraint. It’s likely to be a superspreading event,” Sacramento said. Dr. Peter Bayrenson, director of the county health services department, said.
The lack of a mask may not be the worst of it. Snapchat’s “geotag” map feature shows a party at 6800 blocks on Fruitridge Road in the same area after Sacramento police said the two were shot dead early Saturday morning. Sacramento police are currently checking to see if the video is related to shooting.
“I don’t think it’s safe for everyone. People shouldn’t be wearing masks yet, they should be,” said Ursula, the owner of Fruit Ridge Road. ..
Dr. Beilenson said the party could be devastating as there are less than 80 ICU beds remaining in Sacramento County.
“This is common when pandemic malaise begins, but at least it shouldn’t be held at large or indoors,” says Beilenson. “When 20/30/40 people are hospitalized, the limit may be exceeded.”
CBS13 asked Dr. Bayrenson if contact tracing is possible. He says it would be very difficult given how many people attended the party, but asks anyone who might have attended the event to take the test.
