“During the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, Congressman Presley’s Chief of Staff noticed that the coercion button on the entire Congressman’s office suite had been removed,” Presley’s office spokesman said. Mann said in a statement. “Our staff have used these devices before and are regularly tested and maintained.”
Since then, Parliamentary guards have overseen the installation of new extortion buttons in Presley’s office.
“The safety of lawmakers, her family, and our staff remains our number one priority,” a spokesman added.
Presley, her husband Conan Harris, and other lawmakers sought shelter in a safe room during the siege. Since then, Harris has tested positive for COVID-19.
The disappearance of the button has been notified to the relevant agencies. The case is under investigation.
