Boulder County, Colorado — A man was seriously injured after a paraglider crash on Tuesday afternoon.
At 12:22 pm on Tuesday, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County Communications learned that a paraglider had crashed near the Paraglider Hill, just west of Wonderland Lake.
The 58-year-old man had just started when a gust caused a part of the canopy to collapse and fall into a spiral. According to the sheriff’s office, he crashed shortly thereafter and was seriously injured.
Other paragliders in the area began providing medical care and directed authorities to the area. Firefighters from the Boulder Mountain Fire Department and the Boulder Fire Rescue Team arrived at the scene with the Boulder City Open Space and Mountain Park Rangers and began providing medical care to men.
American Medical Response paramedics continued this after reaching the injured man.
A Rocky Mountain Rescue Group rescue worker then put the injured man into a bean bag splint and debris and used a rope system to evacuate him to an uphill road. He was then taken to a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
The man has not been identified.
