Chicago (AP) — Delilah Edwards’ parents did not plan an elaborate Thanksgiving celebration. It’s a big deal to just spend the day together when your 3-year-old daughter has a new heart.

Davidson and her husband, Ryan Edwards, went to see their daughter every weekend from March in Moline, Illinois, at Anne & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

Delilah was born with the left side of the heart underdeveloped. Her new heart was delivered with a 12-hour transplant last month.

Delilah and her parents celebrated the holiday at Ronald McDonald House in downtown.

The medical director of Ruri’s transplant program is Dr. Phil Slash. He says the first six months after the transplant are important.

But once Delilah has passed a year, she should have a heart for decades.
