Pasco County Extension collecting luggage for foster children in need – Tampa, Florida

Pasco County, Florida-Children living in foster care centers can move three or four times a year. Unfortunately, many of these children have to carry their belongings in trash bags.

Inside the Pasco County Extension’s one-stop shop, you’ll find a closet filled with hundreds of suitcases. Some would call this baggage a baggage, while others would call the person who received the suitcase love.

“They are free to choose what they like,” said Elizabeth Ulquiorra.

Urquiola runs the Luggage of Love program. It’s like a Christmas morning handing a gently used suitcase to a foster child.

“A girl was crazy about her new luggage when she said she was going to Paris,” said Ulquiorra.

Over the past two years, Pasco County Expansion has distributed more than 200 suitcases and backpacks to refugee children throughout the county.

“They have a dignified way to carry their belongings, and it’s very heartwarming to see them,” Ulquiorra said.

The Sunrise of Pasco is one of the many organizations in the county that provides frequent transfers for children and families in need.

“Most of the time, when survivors come to our shelter, they either carry nothing or bring a trash bag,” says Kara Donagi, a caseworker at Sunrise of Pasco.

Donergy takes something as simple as a suitcase for granted, but for these kids it’s a sense of pride, ownership, and hope.

“It’s valuable to take your little suitcase out of the shelter with your belongings,” Donergy said.

The One Stop Shop has taken all precautions to ensure that these suitcases are safe and puts all the parts in a device called an “oven”.

“It gets hot at about 130 degrees Celsius, so it’s for sterilizing your luggage,” Ulquiorra said.

A dry erase luggage tag is also included.

“Then they can write their information there, go to the next house and erase it. You can’t really keep a memory of all the houses you went to recently,” Ulquiorra said. Mr. says.

If you plan to buy a new suitcase, the Luggage of Love is happy to pick up your old suitcase as more and more people want to return to their trip this summer. You can deposit it at the Pasco County Tax Withholding Office.

“There are evacuated children and people in the community who can definitely benefit from your donations,” Ulquiorra said.
