Sacramento (CBS13) – Water was the place for people in Sacramento on Saturday when people enjoyed Memorial Day weekends ahead of triple-digit temperatures.

Highs on Mondays and Tuesdays are above 100 and are expected to be three digits. Some people are worried about people going outdoors for the rest of the holiday weekend.

“In the last two weeks, we’ve been out here and started meeting more people,” said Destiny McLauren, one of the many who enjoys the river at Discovery Park on Saturday.

I’m a little worried about the weather on the way.

“As a mother of six children, I might be worried,” she said.

Heat stroke is one of the things that the Drowning Rescue Team (DART) warns on hot weekends.

Zackery Corvo, Vice President of DART, said:

DART keeps an eye on the river every summer weekend. Memorial Day weekend begins. Their mission is to ensure that everyone is safe, wear life jackets and stay hydrated. It’s also a dry weekend on the river. Corvo reminds people to avoid alcohol, especially at high temperatures.

Besides the river, some people enjoyed the local pool. Elk Grove’s Wackford Aquatic Complex reopened for the season on Saturday and was crowded with people like Patrice Mesa and his family.

She is now vaccinated and wants to enjoy the outdoors.

“I’m back in March,” Mesa said. “It’s good that children don’t leave the house.”

The pool fills up quickly because the complex can only operate at 30% capacity.

“We are delighted to welcome you again,” said Christina Davis, aquatic supervisor at the Wackford Aquatic Complex.

County guidelines may soon change capacity limits next month, but state plans will resume on June 15. More people can go out comfortably as COVID infections are reduced and vaccinations are strengthened.

“Safety was important,” said Calvyn Heng, among the people in the pool. “It’s good to cool down in this heat wave.”

Other pools and water parks have been open for the first time since the pandemic, and more will be reopened in the coming months.

But everyone, whether in the pool or in the river, has their own way to cool down. Authorities want people to be able to play safely in the scorching sun as temperatures soar over the weekend.
