Pfizer recalls smoking cessation drug – Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky

Pfizer voluntarily collects all lots of Chantix 0.5 mg and 1 mg tablets.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, pills contain more than the acceptable daily intake of nitrosamines.

“Long-term intake of N-nitrosovarenicline may be associated with a theoretical potential increase in human cancer risk, but there is no immediate risk to patients taking this drug.” The FDA said in a statement on its website.

Chantics is a treatment that helps people quit smoking.

The FDA states that patients can continue to take their current medications until the provider offers a replacement.

“The health benefits of quitting smoking outweigh the risk of cancer from nitrosamine impurities in varenicline,” the FDA said.
